The curriculum was created to provide a foundation that assists in the development of social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth skills that are needed throughout our lives. The program concentrates on academics, fine and gross motor skills, language development, discovery & exploration, and social skills. We have chosen the strong aspects from various curriculum programs and accreditation programs. The program focuses on one subject each day so the children can concentrate on math one day, science the next and so one. The subject activities are based on the learning theme.
Each level of development incorporates fun filled activities to encourage learning. As part of the program, educational guests and local field trips are incorporated into our program. The local field trips encourage the use of local resources such as the library. The special guests educate the children on hygiene, health awareness, safety issues, recycling, awareness of animal and marine life and taking care of our earth. In addition, there is a large variety of extra-curriculum activities offered at the center. This added curriculum, not only exposes your child to new experiences, but it also allows for these experiences to take place during their stay at the center rather than during the weekends when family time is valued. In June, our Summer Fun program begins with an assortment of theme days, picnics, trips to local merchants, field trips and educational visitors.
To increase a child’s self-esteem and self-confidence, the Toddlers, Preschool, and Pre-Kindergarten children participate in a stage performance once a year. In December, there is a winter concert performance and in June, A Star Is Rising Early Learning Center honors our Pre-Kindergarten with a Graduation Ceremony.
During the summer months of June, July and August, the curriculum program at A Star Is Rising Early Learning Center switch to our Summer Fun Program. The program is designed to illustrate the difference between the school year and the summer months. While we continue to review our academics in the traditional sense, we also introduce learning in a more casual atmosphere through the use of special events.
The children are presented with new experiences utilizing the variation of our local merchants in Dumont. Walking and bus field trips add to our learning. Visiting guests are on the venue creating an exciting mixture.
In addition to formal lessons, the program includes the importance of water safety. All these programs plus an array of extra-curriculum offered through the summer makes for an exciting fun-filled place to be.
Extra Curriculum
©Little Ballers, with coach John, is a sports program designed to help our young players to develop skills while learning the importance of fitness. This fun filled curriculum was created for 2.5 - 10-year-old children. Your children will be learning ball skills, rules of the game, passing and shooting as well as the meaning of teamwork.
©Head to Toes, with Mrs. Lynn, who sets up mats right inside the classroom, and covers basic gymnastic skills using mailboxes, wedges, balance beams, high bars, springboards, and more. Her games and equipment help develop hand/foot eye coordination, as well as enhance and maintain gross motor skills. These are all crucial skills to improve at an early age. Parents as well as our team have noted the difference in the children(s) with the program making a positive development progress.
